Growing Cannabis At Home

Unlike many other state’s medical cannabis programs, patients in Illinois are not permitted to grow their own cannabis.

Possession Limits

Patient’s are able to legally access 2.5 ounces cannabis every 14 days.

Drive High Get A DUI

Similar to alcohol it is illegal to consume cannabis and operate a motor vehicle under any circumstance.

No Distribution

A patient is not allowed to gift, give, or donate any form of medical cannabis to another person. Every patient must go to a state licensed dispensary to get medical cannabis products.

Public Consumption

In accordance with the Smoke-Free Illinois Act, smoking medical cannabis is prohibited anywhere smoking tobacco is. Additionally, being publicly intoxicated on other forms of medical cannabis is not recommended.

Can I travel outside of Illinois with my medical cannabis?

No. It is illegal and punishable by law to travel outside of the state with medical cannabis.

How do consumption methods differ in effect?

The effects of medical cannabis will vary depending upon which consumption method is used. For example, the inhalation methods provide a quicker onset, while the oral and ingestion methods produce more psychoactive effects. How much cannabis should I consume?

The proper dosage of medical cannabis will be different for each person, and will vary depending upon which method of consumption is used. It is important to start with a low dose, and gradually increase until you learn what works best for you. Read the Consumption Methods page under the LEARN tab before getting starting in order to learn more about the differences among each method.

How should I select my strain?

This process will be different for each patient. The effects produced by each strain of medical cannabis will differ depending upon the cannabinoid and terpene profiles. Typically, a patient will start by deciding whether they are looking for a Sativa, Indica or Hybrid strain.
